Mini cheetah is the first four-legged robot to do a backflip
Mar 4, 2019
mit.edu
1:15
Engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) built a four-legged robot 'cheetah' that can perform a 360-degree backflip from a standing position. Weighing just 20 pounds (9kg), the quadruped has a range of motion that makes it agile and able to pick itself up if knocked over. Footage released by team members Benjamin Katz, Sangbae Kim and Jared Di Carlo shows the mini cheetah being tested on a number of maneuvers, including backflips, jumping, running and standing up again when

MIT cheetah robot lands the running jump

A robot cheetah that jumps and runs across rough terrain, climbs over debris, and maintains balance when being pushed around, despite having to rely on 'blind locomotion', has been developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The robot is designed to navigate obstacles despite containing no on-board cameras or external environmental sensors. The MIT team envisages its robot carrying out tasks too dangerous for humans, such as search-and-rescue missions. Cheetah 3 has new hardwar

Unveiled in 2013 as an untethered successor to the record-breaking Cheetah robot, the Boston Dynamics WildCat is a high-speed, four-legged robot developed to navigate diverse outdoor terrains with agility. It was engineered to gallop and bound autonomously at speeds reaching 19 mph. Powered by an internal combustion engine, it served as a vital proof-of-concept for dynamic balance and rapid locomotion in robotics.

The MIT Cheetah robot is a family of agile quadruped robots developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to advance legged locomotion research. Powered by custom high-torque electric actuators, the robot emphasizes energy efficiency, precise torque control, and robust mechanical design. Using a blend of model-based control and learning algorithms, MIT Cheetah can run, jump, recover from disturbances, and traverse uneven terrain, sometimes without vision. These capabilities make it a va

Technology on Instagram: "WildCat is a four-legged robot developed by Boston Dynamics under DARPA’s M3 program. Designed as an untethered evolution of the Cheetah robot, WildCat is built to operate in outdoor environments. While Cheetah once set the record as the fastest legged robot, clocking over 29 mph, WildCat has achieved speeds of up to 16 mph using bounding and galloping gaits. The long-term goal: a robot capable of hitting 50 mph across varied terrain. Via: @bostondynamicsofficial #ai #t
