Galactus (/ ɡəˈlæktəs /) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Formerly a mortal man, he is a cosmic entity who consumes planets to sustain his life force, and serves a functional role in the upkeep of the primary Marvel continuity.

Galactus is a survivor from the Sixth Cosmos, the previous Multiverse. Originally, he was a Taa-an named Galan, born in the previous incarnation of the universe of Earth-616 on the planet Taa, a paradise-like world whose civilization was said to have been the most advanced of its time.
