Daniel Neal (14 December 1678 – 4 April 1743) was an English historian. Born in London, he was educated at the Merchant Taylors' School, and at the universities of Utrecht and Leiden.

DANIEL NEAL Neal was a popular preacher and carried out his clerical duties sedulously. Yet he managed to find time for historical research. His first notable work, the two-volume History of New England, appeared in 1720. It won a popular audience in the American colonies, and earned Neal an honorary degree from Harvard University in 1721.

Published in four volumes between 1732 and 1738, Neal's work went through at least twenty-one editions or reprints; the last one was done in 1863.
