The Climbing Instructor Program is intended for individuals who facilitate climbing experiences, instruct climbing skills, and/or monitor climbing activities. Designed to enable instructors to proficiently facilitate and instruct the sport of rock climbing.

The Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Program teaches climbing instructors to proficiently facilitate and instruct the sport of rock climbing in a single pitch setting. The SPI is the only internationally recognized single pitch climbing instructor certification program in the United States.

The PCIA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) course provides students with an in-depth and standardized understanding of the skills essential to teaching climbing in an outdoor setting, including based and top managed sites.

Rock Climbing Instructors deliver climbing sessions on real rock and artificial climbing walls. They can instruct and supervise roped climbing on single pitch crags and outdoor boulders as well as indoor walls, bouldering walls and auto belays.

The PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) Course lasts two days and provides in-depth, standardized training of the skills essential to teaching climbing in an indoor or other artificial rock climbing setting.

There are a number of crucial abilities one needs to have in order to succeed as a climbing instructor. The essential competencies needed to succeed in this field focus on three key areas: technical proficiency, effective communication and teaching skills, and strong leadership qualities.

The 3-day SPI Course is designed to enable capable recreational rock climbers to become effective rock climbing instructors. The 2-day SPI Exam tests students' performance of industry standard practices.
