Texas Republicans are likely to clear a key hurdle in their bid to pass sweeping redistricting plans in the state on Wednesday, despite a two-week-long protest from Democrats and a two-night camp-out from one representative in the Capitol building.

Texas Republicans are moving closer to approving new congressional maps amid a Democratic show of protest over the GOP House speaker’s order that members who fled the state weeks earlier be placed under law enforcement watch.

The Texas House passed its proposed congressional redistricting map Wednesday evening on a final vote of 88-52, after holding a preliminary vote, adjourning, and starting a new legislative day. The map will now proceed to the Senate for consideration.
