PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Gov. Dan McKee gave his annual State of the State address on Tuesday. In the speech, McKee focused on a variety of issues that his budget proposal, which will be revealed Thursday, plans to address, while also explaining progress on components of his 2030 plan.

McKee calls for a ban on assault-style weapons, a funding stream for homelessness, and loan forgiveness for primary care doctors.

Rhode Island's governor outlined his priorities for the coming year in a televised speech on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

McKee is expected to formally launch his run for reelection in March. His speech offered outlines of some possible campaign talking points.

McKee will need to prove that he can course correct on a difficult 2024, and offer a vision that begins to make the case to voters that he should remain in office through 2030.
