The family of three was killed when saturated ground caused a large tree to fall in the Chattanooga suburb of East Ridge just after midnight, Hamilton County OEM spokesperson Amy Maxwell said. No one else is believed to be missing at this time, officials said.

A flash flood warning is in effect for Chattanooga, East Ridge, and Red Bank, Tennessee, until 8:30 p.m., as torrential rain swamps roads and triggers urgent rescue efforts. Heavy downpours have left sections of Interstate 24 underwater, with at least one vehicle partially submerged.

Officials said there were so many 911 calls, they had to start deciding which to prioritize, putting some callers on hold.
