A magnitude 6.1 earthquake has struck Turkey’s northwestern province of Balikesir, killing at least one person and causing about a dozen buildings to collapse.

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Turkey's northwestern Balikesir Province on Sunday, causing approximately a dozen buildings to collapse and trapping at least two people in debris, according to the United States Geological Survey's ( USGS) earthquake map.

One person was killed on Sunday when an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck northwestern Turkey's Balikesir province, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said, adding 29 people were wounded and 16 buildings collapsed.
