A line of strong thunderstorms blowing across the Midwest will hit the Chicago area Friday night, bringing high winds and the possibility of some spin-up tornadoes on the squall line.

A wind advisory goes into effect on Friday as gusty winds reach over 45 miles per hour. The fast-moving line of storms will be capable of producing destructive winds over 70 miles per hour and potential tornadoes.

Most of the rest of north Alabama will have a Level 2 risk, and a small area in the northeast corner of the state will have a Level 1 risk. If storms can develop they have the potential to be intense, especially west of Interstate 65. Tornadoes, damaging winds and hail will be possible.

Philadelphia will be sunny on Friday with a high of 61, but the weekend ends with storms on Sunday that will bring heavy rain, damaging winds and more.

There is the potential for severe weather across the southeastern parts of the United States over the next several days, including Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia. On Sunday, that severe weather threat extends into north and central Florida.
