Drew Gilbert was called up by the San Francisco Giants as the 10th Tennessee baseball player from the Tony Vitello era to reach the major leagues.

Former Vol Drew Gilbert made his Major League Baseball debut for the Giants. He started in right field and went 0-for-4. Gilbert also made a diving catch for an out in the third inning.

The San Francisco Giants beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The Giants' Dominic Smith hit a go-ahead double in the ninth inning, while Jerar Encarnacion hit a home run in the fifth inning.
