US oil and gas major Chevron and San Francisco-based hedge fund Engine No. 1 have partnered to develop and scale natural gas-powered power plants to serve co-located data centers in the Southeast, Midwest, and West of the US.

A bill introduced in California’s state Legislature would make fossil fuel companies legally liable for damages from climate change, similar to current law holding utilities liable for fires

The oil company plans to build natural gas power plants that will be directly connected to data centers used by technology companies for artificial intelligence and other services.

The proposal, introduced in the wake of the LA fires, would allow people and insurers who have suffered losses in climate disasters to seek damages in court from fossil fuel companies.
