Colorado's first weekend of summer has been a scorcher, with near-record heat and growing fire concerns along the I-25 corridor. A cold front will bring cooler temperatures and the return of daily rain chances to start the work week.

Relief from the extreme heat is finally on the way for parts of Colorado, but it won't come without risks. Elevated fire danger continues across the plains and southern Colorado, and Denver could be in for rounds of severe storms this week.

Temperatures could reach a record-breaking 100 degrees in the metro and up to 103 on the plains, forecasters said.
