Tottenham are closing in on the loan signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha. The destructive number six joined the German giants in a £42.3m deal last summer and called it "the happiest day of my life" – although the move has since soured due to injury and a lack of playing time.

Joao Palhinha is to have a Tottenham medical in Germany on Friday ahead of a season-long loan move from Bayern Munich. The deal includes the option to make the transfer permanent for €30million at the end of the season,

Sources said Spurs previously held an interest in Palhinha prior to Thomas Frank's arrival as head coach but it is unclear whether the Portuguese midfielder would be interested in a return to London so soon.
