A widespread power outage hit Spain and Portugal, affecting millions of people who live across Europe's Iberian Peninsula.

Power was almost fully restored to Spain and Portugal on Tuesday although many questions remained about what caused one of Europe’s most severe blackouts

Emergency services handed out food, water and blankets to stranded travellers at Madrid’s Atocha station on Monday evening, after a widespread blackout brought much of Spain and Portugal to a standstill.
