The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., said on Friday that it was investigating U.S. Representative Cory Mills, a Republican representing a district northeast of Orlando, in connection with a report of an assault on a woman this week.

Central Florida Congressman Cory Mills is under investigation for an alleged assault, a spokesman for the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department said Friday. Officers were called to an apartment building about two miles from the U.S. Capitol at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the police department.

"This is an active criminal investigation and there is no further information on the case to provide at this time," Police spokesman Tom Lynch said.
