Women who were prescribed medication to deal with a neurological disorder that impacts one in 10 Americans have said that the drugs made them seek out risky sexual behaviors, according to a report out of the U.

Prevalence rates of what GSK calls "deviant" sexual behaviours caused by the drugs are unknown and tend to be under-reported by those who experience them, according to Valerie Voon, a professor of neuropsychiatry at the University of Cambridge.

Patients who were prescribed drugs for restless legs syndrome (RLS) have said doctors did not warn them about significant side effects of the medication – including risky sexual behaviours and compulsive gambling.

The medications, known as dopamine agonists, are designed to mimic dopamine—the brain chemical that controls movement and also plays a major role in how we experience pleasure.
