Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase kicked off banks earnings season with blowout results. Here's what it could mean for hiring across Wall Street.

Goldman Sachs recorded its biggest quarterly profit since the third quarter of 2021, at $4.11 billion, helped by deal fees, debt sales and trading. Its fourth-quarter global banking and markets revenues rose 33.4% year-over-year and the bank posted record net annual revenues in equities.

Citigroup reported earnings of $1.34 per share for the fourth quarter, surpassing Wall Street estimates of $1.22. A year ago, the bank posted a loss of $1.16 a share. Shares rose 3.6% in premarket trading.

U.S. stocks ripped higher after an encouraging update on U.S. inflation. The S&P 500 jumped 1.8% for its best day in two months Wednesday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.7%, and the Nasdaq composite gained 2.
