Evergy is reporting that thousands of customers are without power Friday as strong winds batter northeast Kansas. Evergy’s online power outage map shows more than 23,000 of its customers are without power across its service area in Kansas and Missouri as of 5 p.

Evergy said customers with the most extensive storm damage are in St. Joseph, Lee's Summit and south of the river in Kansas City. For customers in those areas, power isn't expected to be turned back on until Thursday night. BPU said crews will work through the night and expects outages to be restored by Thursday night.
