The New York Jets' defense is about to receive a major boost as Pro Bowl edge rusher Jermaine Johnson II was activated off the physically unable to perform list Sunday following his recovery from an Achilles tear.

The team activated defensive end Jermaine Johnson off of the physically unable to perform list Sunday, meaning he can return to practice this week. Johnson has been sidelined since tearing his right Achilles tendon in Week 2 last season. Johnson missed all of the spring practices and the first three weeks of training camp.
