Crystal Palace have been moved from the Europa League to the Conference League after UEFA ruled they could not participate in the same competition as Lyon; questions were raised with John Textor owning shares in both Palace and Lyon,
European football’s governing body, UEFA, contacted the London club confirming they had been barred from entering next season’s Europa League. They had, as the subsequent public statement stated, “breached, as at 1 March 2025, the multi-club ownership criteria foreseen in Article 5.01 of the UEFA Club Competition Regulations”.
The selfish decision would have been to hope Manchester City won the FA Cup. If Pep Guardiola's side had lifted the cup on 17 May then Nottingham Forest, already guaranteed European football, would have gained a place in the Europa League without all the furore that has followed.
