Republican state legislators have filed an emergency petition with the California Supreme Court to put a Democratic-led mid-decade redistricting effort​ on hold.

Republican lawmakers in California filed a lawsuit on Tuesday asking the state Supreme Court to step in and stop Democrats from moving forward with a plan to redraw congressional districts by delaying key votes at the state Capitol this week.

“Thousands of Californians have spoken, and their message is simple: Stop rigging, gerrymandering and disenfranchising,” Bianco, the Riverside County sheriff, said. “Voters deserve to choose their leaders — not the other way around.”
