Is there Java Control Panel in java -16? - Stack Overflow
According to the Oracle Java 16 documentation, the Control Panel was removed in Java 11. It may or may not be present in other Java distros. If it is still present, you should be able to find it as ControlPanel or jcontrol in the Java installation's bin or jre/bin directory. (Or javacpl.exe + javacpl.cpl on Windows.)

How can changes to Java Control Panel settings be saved?
To store your settings, you have to run the Java Control Panel in administrator mode. Find the javacpl.exe in the bin subdirectory of your JRE installation, and use the context menu to run it as administrator. Any changes you make to the settings should now be saved when you apply and close the window.

For my task, modifying this Java Control Panel setting manually is the least desirable way to solve the problem because the program, which I am fixing, is a part of an automated test suite, which is deployed on many machines, and requiring manual intervention makes the deployment process error-prone.

Good to know. However, my Java icon doesn't show up in the system tray. I see a Java control panel option "Place Java icon in system tray" under the "Miscellaneous" options. I've enabled that, but still don't see a Java icon in my system tray.
